Crochet checkered hand towel pattern

Hello funky friends! Today we are getting rid of our raggedy old gray hand towel for something a bit more chic and trendy, this charming checkered hand towel with a stylish scalloped edge. Whether you’re a crochet pro or just getting started, this project promises both fun and functionality. Let’s get into it!

You’ll need:

-2 different colored skeins of 100% cotton worsted weight yarn

-G/4mm crochet hook

-Scissors

-Tapestry needle

Notes:

•Turning chains are not counted as a stitch or included in the stitch count.

•The first stitch of each row is worked into the same stitch as the turning chain.

•Changing colors: For all color changes, you’ll change colors on the last pull-through of the last stitch in each block of color. So for double crochet, you’ll work the last stitch before the color change until you have two loops on the hook, drop the current yarn, and pull through the last two loops with the new color to complete the stitch.

•To create the checkerboard pattern without cutting the yarn, we’ll be carrying the yarn through. So after changing colors, crochet over the old color by holding it along the back of your work and working stitches over it to secure it.

•If you’d like to make the towel wider, simply chain an odd number of multiples of 5, as long as you’d like, and then add 1. Using an odd number ensures that each row will begin and end with the same color.
