Crochet Dartboard Blanket Pattern

Hello! And welcome to this dartboard-inspired blanket pattern. This pattern came to life because of my friend Megan, who sparked my love for darts and who appreciates my hand-made gifts the most. It’s comprised of mostly double crochet with simple color changes and a simple increase pattern. It’s the perfect mindless project for some quality TV time.

Materials:

• 5.5mm crochet hook (plus optional smaller hook for finishing edge)

Weight 4 acrylic yarn: black (~600g black, ~400g white, <200g each of red and green)

Stitch markers

Scissors

Yarn needle

Terms & Abbreviations (US):

• ch: chain

• st(s): stitch(es)

• sl st: slip stitch

• sc: single crochet

• dc: double crochet

• inc: increase

Gauge:

The bullseye measures approximately 3 inches (7.5 cm) in diameter.

The finished blanket measures approximately 52 inches (132 cm) in diameter.

Note on Tension & Adjustments:

If the edges of your blanket start to ruffle, reduce the number of increases per round. If the edges start to curl inward, try adding a few more increases. Adjustments like these help ensure the blanket stays evenly shaped and lays flat as it grows. Keep an eye on your project and don’t hesitate to make small changes as needed!

Additional Notes:

Chains at the beginning of each round do not count as a stitch.

• The blanket is worked in the round, turning your work after each row.

• Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each row as the blanket grows.

• When working color changes, carry the unused yarn by crocheting over it, and gently tug to avoid the unused color peeking through.

Pattern Instructions

Bullseye Section:

Start with red yarn and a magic ring

Row 1:  Ch 2 then work 12 dc into magic ring.  Sl st to join in first st of the round. (12)

Row 2: Switch to green yarn.  Ch 2, dc inc each stitch around. Join with sl st. (24)

Row 3: Ch 1, *sc inc, sc inc, sc* repeat ** 8 times around. Join with sl st. (40)

Alternating Black and White Section:

Ch 2 beginning of every round (does not count as st)

Row 4: Switch to black yarn. Work 2 dc in black, switch to white yarn, work 2 dc in white. Repeat *2 dc black, 2 dc white* around. Join with sl st. (40)

Row 5: Following the established color pattern (black and white), work *increase dc, dc* around. Join with sl st. (60)

Row 6: Continue the color pattern and work *dc increase, 2 dc* around. Join with sl st. (80)

Row 7: Work 1 dc in each stitch, continuing the black and white color pattern. Join with sl st. (80)

Rows 8 and Onward:

For the next 3 rows:

Increase one stitch per triangle section for 2 rows.

Work 1 row with no increases.

This adjustment accounts for tension from carrying yarn and maintains the triangular sections. After 3 rows, the stitch count will increase by 40 stitches total, even though normal rounds would increase by 36.

Triple Line Section:

Once the blanket measures 13 inches (33 cm) from the center of the bullseye, switch to red yarn for black sections and green yarn for white sections. Work 2 rows following the same increase pattern.

Black and White Section:

Switch back to black and white yarn. Continue following the increase pattern until the blanket measures 19.5 inches (49.5 cm) from the center of the bullseye.

Double Line Section:

Switch to green yarn for black triangles and red yarn for white triangles. Work 2 rows following the same increase pattern.

Outer Edge:

Switch to plain black yarn. To avoid a ruffled edge, switch to a smaller hook (5mm or 4.5mm) to account for the change in tension now that you are no longer carrying yarn. Continue working in the round until the blanket measures 26 inches (66 cm) from the center of the bullseye.

Finishing Notes:

• Fasten off and weave in all ends securely.

• Block your blanket if needed. I simply machine washed and dried mine to help it relax into shape, but be sure to follow the care instructions for the yarn you use.
